Colour & Lighting

Direct sunlight exposes the colours in a room, showing their natural form without any additional warmth or coolness. Indirect sunlight makes colours warmer than they are. Artificial light can cause colours to appear warm or cool. Incandescent and halogen lights induce a warm look. White fluorescent light creates a cool look. Most light is typically artifical and the colour of that light can vary. Warm light from incandescent bulbs can intensify yellow and red colours, while having a tendency to dull cool colours. Halogen bulbs produce a much lighter and brighter light. The cool blue light of fluorescent bulbs tends to muddy warm yellows and reds, but amplify colours like blue and green.

North and South Facing Rooms:

Colour can balance the feeling of temperature in a room; use warm colours in south facing rooms and cool colours in north facing rooms (i.e sunny rooms).
